Outerwear is decided early!

Outerwear is one of the most complex product categories to execute well. Long before bulk production begins, decisions around construction order, insulation choice, seam treatment, and pattern engineering determine how a garment performs — and how long it lasts. This month, we’re sharing a few of the areas we focus on when developing premium outerwear programmes with our partners.

In our experience, the biggest outerwear challenges rarely come from materials alone. They come from early technical decisions that don’t fully account for wear case, climate, or long-term durability. Seam sealing versus seam taping, insulation type, and construction sequencing all influence performance, cost, and consistency. Getting these right early avoids compromise later.

As brands plan further ahead and scrutinise total cost of ownership, outerwear development is shifting from seasonal reaction to long-term platform building. Durability and consistency are becoming just as important as initial performance.

Keylon, Production Coordinator, and Cassiel, Merchandiser, are trusted members of our production team, supporting outerwear programs end-to-end and ensuring every product meets performance needs, quality standards, and commercial goals.

We’ll be sharing further category-specific insight over the coming months.
